My wife has spent nearly 30 years immersed in the professional classic music world so I feel a little bit qualified to talk about the conductor analogy. What I would add is that a lot of conductors are also "composers". They create the music in the documents and then work with the musicians to bring this to life. However, as they work with the orchestra in rehearsal they often find certain parts work better (or worse) so those changes are reflected in the score. Naomi - you asked for feedback on speaking more. My recommendation is you transition into being the conductor / composer.
