Insightful episode as we are developing our first press strategy for our company. Thank you for the very practical advice - 1) follow writers on social media, 2) freelancers may be hungrier, 3) the writers don't care about you, write for their audiences. Thoroughly enjoyed my first Lenny podcast!
I'd also add - along the lines of the 'be human' admonition - be helpful. Your pitch can be perfect, sources relevant and your company rep being interviewed a charmer, but if you yourself are not willing to go the extra mile for the reporter/editor, making sure they have everything they need, and being as responsive as possible, it's not likely they'll holler back at you for the next story.
